Good news and... bad news

The mighty chief consultant has been round to inspect my femur following yesterday's x-rays. The good news is that the bone continues to heal and harden up. The bad news... there's still a bit of movement so I have to spend another two weeks in traction (including my birthday... sniff, sniff) and then they'll take another look to see if I'm ready to be cut down and given walking lessons.

So, another fortnight of delicious hospital food and a brick wall for company.

  3. I'm sorry you have to spend another two weeks in traction. It must seem like a lifetime but I'm glad that it's healing well. Keep the chin up and get as many panini as you can!

  4. At least you have some progression, and on reflection it must mean that on average the food is sustaining you... but it must be a blow to have another two weeks in front of you and to have to spend your birthday in jail... sorry hospital...xx

  5. Bless you TM, the good news is fantastic! WooHoo!!!!
The bad news not so :0(
Think positively though, the longer it takes the better it will be in the long run....
Two weeks is nowt in comparison to the year you've had, so chin up, and keep your eyes on the light at the end of the tunnel!
It is well within your reach now :0)
Oh, and your birthday celebrations "post hospital release" will be so much sweeter, mainly because you will have so long to look forward to and plan the main event.... Maybe a "Release/Belated birthday" bash all in one.... Now there's a celebration not to be missed.

  7. What I meant was company here in my room. Believe me, without all you lovely people I would have gone loopy weeks back. You should all be so proud of yourselves for having made such a big difference.

  9. How about we all donate to enhance TM's birthday celebrations? TM - your birthday will be unforgettable for you in any case but let's all try to soften the pain. Are cakes still allowed in hospital or have they been banned from there as well?

  10. I think we should all visit him with cake, balloons, silly hats etc, (and smoked salmon)and have a party. Now, who knows where he is?

  11. Great news that you are healing! I am soooo pleased for you. Shame about the next 2 weeks tho!! But, at least, you have hope! There is light at the end of the tunnel! Or, a hole in the brick wall!!!!

Keep up the fight against the garbage they pass off as hospital food! At least your birthday is a Sunday so hopefully Mrs TM can bring you something yummy to eat that day! I do hope so.

    Take care of yourself.

  13. Greetings from Jamaica, TM! For the last few weeks I've started each morning with a cuppa and checking out your blog. Your ramblings always put a smile on my face and although (like everyone else) I am willing you to full recovery; can I be a little bit selfish and say.....naaah....

  14. Good afternoon TM

Bad news re: another 2 weeks in traction but at least when you are eventually released to enjoy your birthday drinkies etc (albeit belated) you will be a cheap date - one sniff and you will be useless!

    Cheers

PS I really appreciate your blog and will miss you on your return to the real world!

  15. What if we encourage people all around the world to send in photos and descriptions of their hospital meals? That way you can keep getting you fix of Hospital Food Bingo and the blog lives on.

  19. I haven't decided to stop the blog yet. You'll want to know if I get to walk again, won't you? And how about you send your worst hospital food photos in for sharing?

  20. Good news TM about the healing, not so having to spend your birthday in hospital. My birthday is 2 days after yours so I will raise a glass to you on my birthday.

I'm having a knee "wash out" tomorrow. It's only a day case although they have threatened to keep me in overnight if I don't respond too well to the anaesthetic. I muttered something like "over my dead body" but I hope that doesn't ring true LOL. It worries me that I have to eat something before I am discharged so I might take a sandwich in with me. After all, I know what the food is like because I work there!

You hang on in there and count the days off by making little marks on the wall like prisoners do in cartoons.

  21. As someone else said, keep your eyes on the light at the end of the tunnel. if you need a nice bright torch to help you see in this tunnel, i have plenty of spare caving lamps at home!!.

  22. Hmmm. Good that the bone is doing its thing, but bad that it's not doing it quickly enough. If they'd fed you proper food you'd be outta there.

WE all know what you needed to be eating. So did the medical and nursing staff. The grey suited wonders in Wales don't have a bleedin' cloooo mate. Plus your hospital appears to be right down the league tables in terms of spend per patient. One wonders why that is ... oh yes, one does. :-)

And don't you dare stop this blog. Yes we do want to see you getting back onto your pins and getting to the point where you can run and jump and skip and twirl and all that.

And let's see more pix of hospital slop just to start making regional comparisons ..

Chin up chool. Nearly there. We'll keep scribbling nonsense and barfing every time we see your lunch and making rude remarks about NHS management. :-)

  23. Very good news and I am sure we all hope this blog will continue as it cheers us all up.

    Two weeks will fly by.

  24. Hey great news! You'll be out of there in no time and with luck all memory of the evil food will fade away.

  25. I am so glad to hear you are getting better. I am glad also to see the light at the end of the tunnel is not a train.
In answer to BLY...Some things do not ever fade from ones memory. Unfortunately I am sure some of those meals are in that catagory.
Good job Traction Man and hope you keep up with your progress.

  26. You have us! You have us for company too don't forget!
In some selfish twisted way I'm hoping you'll never leave so we get continual updates. It won't be quite the same when you're posting pics of tasty fruit salads and bagels every day!

  27. Great news that you MAY be cut down and released from your torture. Mind you, as a former physio, the best (??) is yet to come!! Be nice to your physio though as she/he often holds your fate in their hands!!!

Good luck and hope you're up and about soon!
