Totally gross - whatever the pie is. What are the track marks on the orange stuff - did they run over it with a trolley to make sure it had ceased to be ............
Ugh!
Best wishes from Cats' Mother (Cats in trouble - they stole husband's toast and licked off all the butter)
Apple crumble - an interesting development.... Might be better with a generous dollop of creme fraiche/Cornish ice cream instead of the ubiquitous custard - but hope it was edible anyway?
Urgh..... now that really does make me reach for the sick bucket.. but of course I'm biased as I never could stomch school mashed potatos, and don't like carrots. I presume those are carrots beneath the caterpillar tracks - not pumpkin or sweet potato - or couldn't you tell? Have you ever had a desset that wasn't smothered in that yellow stuff? Hope it's better than the school dinner custard we used to get : didn't like that either... oh dear, I'm starting to sound a really picky eater... I quite like peas, though, and we know you've seen more than enough of those. Oh well, it's nearly the weekend - presumably you can hope for some food parcels? You didn't mention if your Dad brought you anything edible or whether he was just food taster that day. Bon courage, Mel
What is that orange stuff and why does it have tramlines through it? Was the chef trying to be artistic to cover up the rest of the disaster on the plate!!
I'm due to go into hospital again soon and this is really putting me off.....I shall prepare hospital hamper not bag, complete with camping stove for bacon butties...
Was the "pie" really that strange colour? I think they have redefined the word "pie". In fact, they have rewritten the whole meaning of the word "food"...
Those aren't tracks they're clawmarks. Some kind soul was hoping to arrange your lunch on a plate using creativity, thought and a few freshly steamed vegetables, and they dragged her away.
Or perhaps it's a rat's clawmarks. It was actually trying to get at the block of cheese waiting to be taken through to the staff dining room and it was hauled away by its tail.
Whatever it was on that plate looks highly dangerous anyway, and again, soft as sick. My Marmite on toast with a cuppa looks a lot nicer.
Interesting to read your thoughts on the reason behind the dire and bland quality of hospital food. Speaking (ahem) as a vegetarian I can say that you can stuff more flavour, interest and quality into a plate of soya mince than you can even hope to gain from a plate of the NHS caterers' finest.
What you're eating is pallid, boring, and likely to drive anyone into a decline after months of it. Do they honestly not see the correlation between appetising food and general perkiness in the mood department? Not to mention the fact that you'd have mended a whole lot quicker with a decent diet and they could have saved themselves a fortune overall if they'd fed you properly. Since the filthy lucre is what everything is based on these days in the NHS corridors of power you'd have thought they'd have grasped that.
Mind you, in general you're dealing with NHS management with no idea of what a patient looks like. 8-\
The question of whether having pastry defines it as a pie seems somewhat immaterial to me. How on earth did anyone define that the stuff underneath used to be a chicken? For the religious, it's against God; for the rest, it's against nature.
I cannot imagine being served all those horrible looking desserts every single day... Or nearly... Somehow our hospital food here in the States is less runny... Does bad food having a certian solidity make it easier to ingest? Hmm... Hope you're feeling well today!
Good afternoon TM

no no no that is not a pie ! and don't let anyone convince you otherwise.
ReplyDeleteThere is but one word to describe that pseudo-pie - YUK!
ReplyDeleteThree bricks to match the colours of the wall you are looking out on?
ReplyDeleteThat orange stuff looks as revolting as the rest of it.... perhaps you should name and shame the chef lol
ReplyDeleteApple crumble - an interesting development.... Might be better with a generous dollop of creme fraiche/Cornish ice cream instead of the ubiquitous custard - but hope it was edible anyway?
ReplyDeleteThat looks quite horrible - better than last night - but the bar is already so low you could limbo dance under it.
ReplyDeletePie...but not as we know it. At least the crumble was OK.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that the orange stuff had to be ploughed before they could serve it.
ReplyDelete'The orange stuff' looked more appetising when it was a drumstick.

Someone rode their bike through the orange stuff?
ReplyDeleteNOT pie. Disaster perhaps but not PIE.
Hi Mel
ReplyDeleteMum and dad brought me a cappuccino, fresh orange juice and a smoked salmon bagel. Very nice.

ReplyDeletePie? Pastry? Looks like a piece of driveway. As for the orange stuff, ever seen the film The Blob?

ReplyDeleteThat is the worst one ever.
