Maybe someone shot the chef...

It didn't taste great but it was edible.

Those peas and potatoes could hurt someone but the omelette was hot and fresh and cooked thoroughly as you'd expect in any NHS establishment. I prefer to live dangerously with soft or slightly runny eggs but I understand the 'elf 'n' safety culture.

  1. Are those supposed to be child sized chips TM, and what's with the peas with everything, including tonights delicious soup.

I am with you on the runny omlette, rubber ones don't taste as good, do they.

  2. The omelette looks like a pancake, but at least you know it doesn't contain any typical hospital viruses.

  3. Wow just think of the fun you can have if Mrs TM brought you in a pea shooter. At least the peas would be put to good use.

  4. Apart from the fact there are vegetables in it, I think the soup is further proof of my theory that all the soups you are getting are either gloop coloured or orange - as here.

Given the previous meal, this one almost looks appetising! Or could it be because I've been sick and haven't eaten for 24 hours? On second thoughts, even starving, I don't think I could eat that soup.

  7. I'm curious, Traction Man... do you take these pictures with the NHS staff in the room?

I have a disconcerting picture of someone smiling politely as the slop is served, then rootling under his duvet for his digital camera.

If you run out of battery, your food might go cold. :)

  8. If someone did shoot the chef, you can expect him to be served up in a day or two. Inedibly. Probably shot him/her with one of those peas...

  9. I don't take the photos in front of the staff. They're far too busy and hard-working to hang around and watch me eat... or not.

  11. I say never say never. It's possible that time will erase these painful experiences and I will be able to face peas and potatoes again. Perhaps only in very small quantities at first and very infrequently. Time is a great healer, even for those who have suffered the most hideous of ordeals.

  12. God yes, the omelette will be good for repairing the soles of hiking boots, but like you I understand the Elfin Safety behind such a complete assassination of perfectly good eggs.

(Was there anything in it? Cheese? Herbs? Gravy? Old bits of quiche?)

  13. The omelette displayed traces of tomato. Obviously no protein such as cheese as that would be too much nutrition on one plate. I didn't eat the peas or potatoes, obviously.

  14. NHS omlettes are an almost unique experience! The only thing that meets it is the ones in certain 'family' restaurants!!!

My boy and I were shopping today and not only have I become the owner of a nice new phone which allows me access to the internet etc, but we are certain it will annoy members of staff in the hospitals we attend!! LOL! We also saw some paper planes which looked like fun to fly round the hospital! Although a pea shooter would be just as fun!!

When is Mrs TMs next mercy visit?? I hope it is soon! Ensure can only satisfy for so long!

  15. Mrs TM is back in a week's time. It's milkshake-style Ensure and paninis until then.

  16. Oh well! I guess that will have to do! It is better than nothing!
Will she bring you a sling shot or pea shooter on the next visit?? I do hope so.

Last weekend we were flying polystyrene planes round the ward. The nurses were turning a blind eye, thankfully!! LOL!

  17. Laughter is great medicine. I try to make all the nurses and HCAs who look after me have a good giggle. They don't want to be nursing old miseries. I think laughter and comedy has kept me going this year. I love writing something funny and getting messages back from people saying how much they laughed. That's all I really want to do in life... And improve hospital food, of course!

  19. Can you post pictures of food you get from your visitors / outside food? I would like to be reassured you actually get something good to eat.

  21. Hi Wally

take a look back through the blog and you'll see some food that's been brought in for me. Mostly it's smoked salmon and bagels. Salmon is great for bone growth, plus it tastes great.

  22. When my baby was in Intensive care at a specialist children's hospital we stayed over with her and was surprised to be able to get a big fat greasy english breakfast in the hospital restaurant. It was cheaper than the healthy options and fantastic comfort food.

I was shocked that as parents of a critically ill baby we still had to pay for our meals - going to a cash dispenser had been the least of our worries when she went to A&E...

  23. The vegetables in the soup look familiar. Weren't they on your plate at lunchtime?
Very brave of you to opt for the omelette...or was it the best thing on the menu?

  24. Omelette was the best thing on the menu... that's says something, doesn't it? After the Vienna steaks I didn't want to take any risks. You know where you are with an omelette, even if it is rubbery.

  25. I would have been tempted to open the omlet, tear out two eye holes and a mouth, put it over my face and said " Clarice, can you hear the lambs Clarice"..!

    Ness..xx

  26. ness , you are one sick puppy , but maybe if he tried that he can see if the food on the mental ward is any better.
