What a choice

For lunch today I had a choice of Corned Beef Lattice Pie, Vegetable Mousaka, Savoury Minced Lamb or a cheese and tomato sandwich. So which did I choose?

  1. I'm intrigued by the vegetable moussaka, as opposed to savoury minced lamb. Moussaka IS savoury minced lamb. Plus some lovely vegetables but if I list them, TM will call me an epicurean sadist again. Anyway, TM - I think you did the right thing in missing out on these choices - and especially Corned Beef Lattice Pie - that doesn't bear thinking about!

  2. TM - as you're a decent fellow foodie who is concerned about the muck that we eat, have you seen the recent BBC3 programmes "Britain's Most Disgusting Food' ?

They're very, very good. Informative, interesting AND funny.

So far there's one on Meat:

    And one on Dairy:

  3. I think this could be deemed a 'pani-no-win' situation: no real choice unless you can bag a panino.

BTW last night I dreamt that I was being chased by a Bertie Basset-like man made of sausages who was covered in hotpot sauce. All I had to fend him off with was a plastic knife and fork. I won and he ended up looking like the close up pic in yesterday's post.

  5. Having read your blog for a couple of weeks or more now I think there can be no doubt that you made the only sensible choice! Thank goodness you have that to fall back on!

Hope tea time is better but I am not holding my breath.

Keep fighting! You will get out soon!

  7. I had a cheese and ham panino as well. Must be a Tuesday thing. I'm beginning to suspect lunches in ALL major institutions are exactly the same.

  8. I never knew what a panino was until I saw it in here. It looke so nice that I have searched the shops here for what ever it is that makes them.

Is it one of them Forman grill things that you cook steaks on ??

I had a similer roll like the panino in the hospital here, the woman serving filled a long bread roll with cheese, tomato, onion, lettuce, cooked bacon slices and mayo, then she put it in this big machine. It came out looking like a panino and the machine looked like a large George Forman grill, it was so tasty and filling. The hospital charged 7 euro`s for it and a coffie was 5 euro`s.

Crete...a very expensive rip off country..!!!

  9. Hi Ness

My wife bought we one of these for my birthday. You can get them much cheaper too. The food is collectively called Panini but we pedants on this site are using the correct term of panino for one. Any press griddle will do. Makes a quick an easy snack.

  10. Hi XTM, Thankyou for the info. I shall look for one of them George Forman griddles now at a good price. I was looking at one yesterday at Alex Pac, price was 55 euro`s, bit steep I thought, but worth it for a decent snack.
