Off to hospital

Today's my monthly check at hospital. This is the first one since I came home. It's a two-hour drive this morning to the hospital so no blogging until I get back.

  6. I hope you've taken a packed lunch! Hope it all goes well for you ExTM.

I had to get a radioactive iodine tablet to treat an over active thyroid yesterday. It took me 2 and a half hours to get there to be told they didn't know if there were any capsules in stock. I got the last one.

Another gentleman waiting was told he wouldn't be getting one that day. he said that the planning in the hopital was dreadful. he had been in once for 5 days to get an endescope procedure, which is usually a day bed. They kept starving him and then telling him after the evening meal that they couldn't do it that day. He then had to eat a sandwich as there was no hot food left. Imagine how much it must have cost to keep him in for 5 days unnecessarily.

I reckon I only got it because they cancelled an appointent 2 weeks ago which I'd prepared for by stopping some tablets, arranging accommodation and arranging time off work. The letter cancelling was worded as if I had rearranged it so I phoned up to complain. I also had to travel a long way. The gentleman said that they could easily have called him that morning to tell him not to come in....

    Not good really.

Again, good luck and stay away from the food

BTW - Don't eat anything there although you could take a pic or two - Just to show us what you're missing!

  8. Hope it is all well with you. The journey sounds like a nightmare to start with never mind the stress of the check up.

Let us know you got out safe and sound! And that you didn't stoop to eating the food for old times sake!

  9. Another six weeks :-( Oh well, it's for the best. At least I'll be really plastered this Christmas.

  10. I hope all goes well and that your consultant is pleased with your progress.
Packed lunch? Or have you been missing the panini?

For a poor man's panino, cut a pitta bread in half, put some ham and a slice or 2 of cheese in each half, and pop in the toaster. Quick and tasty.

  11. XTM, Sorry to hear that you have another 6 weeks of plaster. Did they replaster to allow for your leg muscles bulking up?
    Best wishes,

  12. Same cast and brace. It's less tight than a conventional cast but has a belt and shoulder strap to tighten it in place. It's called a Meggitt Brace.

  13. I've just found a useful article by Meggitt, which includes pictures of the brace and information about length of use. Though you might find it interesting.

  14. Good afternoon ETM

Well I guess it's not exactly good news but neither is it bad news!

Try to be positive. You are home with your good lady/excellent chef/fire/cat/family and friends and christmas stuff to look forward to.

Now if you can just come up with a suitable excuse as to why I cannot accompany him indoors to a party this evening, that would be perfect! Or else it will be a case of me wearing a drinks mat my sister got me which says "Don't mistake me for a ....ing people person"!

    Happy Thursday!

  15. @Sarah Tell him there's been an outbreak of swineflu and that you must avoid contact with others for 48 hours. Let him go to the party while you stay at home with the Champagne and smoked salmon. Just be sure the Chelsea Gang get their prawns.

  16. Hi XTM! Sorry to hear you still have to wear that cast. Try to perceive it as something like the pebbles that the Greek orator whatshisname held in his mouth when young so he could better become a master of the necessary clear pronunciation ... When they finally put you out of the cast you'll possibly do a joyful dance right away?! Best wishes from Styria - Barbara

  17. You're right, Barbara. I shall be to walking what Demosthenes was to public speaking.

  18. shame, but at least they didn't try to incarcerate you again. Hope you get over today's ordeal.

  19. Hi there. Sorry to hear about the extra 6 weeks. I suppose they're just making very sure that you'll be fine. I've just been reading Clarissa Dickson Wrights new book - Rifling Through my Drawers - and it has a bit about hospital food in it. Do you want me to type it out?

Hope you get a good nights sleep

    Carolyn
Ruby - snoring in a cardboard box and
Hamish - having a kip on the shed roof
